Perhaps it’s a cliche for an author, but it is the truth.
Bookstores were an escape. It was the one place my sister and I were always allowed to go. We would pass hours there, cuddled in a corner until hunger forced us out. It was a sad day when the nearby Borders (that was a whopping 45 minutes away) finally closed down.
While I’ve never quite been able to recreate that magic, the spirit of those visits still rest with me. I visit bookstores frequently, especially when I have no business visiting them, searching the shelves for my next great find. Local bookstores are my favorite–they have a certain charm about them that’s hard to replicate in a big box store. And more than that, I love the recommendations that come from local stores. There’s something endearing about messages from your peers, recommending a book that they love, no screens required.
So, I ask you. What are some of your must-read recommendations?
